Stanley Février
This spring Arsenal Contemporary Art is pleased to welcome Stanley Février for a residency.
About
Stanley explores the physical and psychological suffering caused to individuals by the violence of the modern world. While his politically engaged works are inspired by the issues of power in an era of globalization, they also address more intimate questions, such as the relationship with oneself and one anothers, which has become difficult in a world where listening has lost its value. He attempts to create a meeting space where participants are at the center of the work, and leads them to re-politicize themselves and assert their experience in order to finalize the work; in an awareness of the self, the us, its political power and the political "understood as concern for oneself and the other".
Stanley Février lives and works in Montreal, Canada. He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Canada and internationally. In 2023, had a show at the Blouin Division gallery. Février is the recipient of several creative grants. In 2022 he was a finalist for the Sobey Art Award, and in 2020 he won the 4th MNBAQ Contemporary Art Award. In 2019, he received a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts for the production of "America... en toute impunité".
