Simon Bertrand

This summer, Arsenal Contemporary Art Montreal is pleased to welcome Simon Bertrand for a residency. During this residency, the Canadian artist is working on a series of works entitled Tabula Rasa which will be presented at Blouin Division gallery.

About

From 2008 to 2018, Simon Bertrand transcribed by hand some of the great founding narratives as well as some sections of poetry and novels. His process allowed the viewer to grasp the entirety of each piece of writing at a glance, making the full arc of the narrative immediately visible. Since 2018, drawing has become central to his practice, which is now rooted in the repetitive gesture and whose essential themes are metaphysics, alchemy, and quantum physics.

Simon Bertrand was born in 1980 in Canada. Graduated from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), he lives and works in Montreal. His recent exhibitions include: Atlas: constellation II at B-312 Gallery (Montreal, Canada), The beginnings at René Blouin Gallery (Montreal, Canada), Reading Exercises at Leonard & Bina Ellen Gallery (Montreal, Canada) and assemble, draw, transcribe at UQAM Gallery (Montreal, Canada). Simon Bertrand is represented by Blouin Division gallery (Montreal, Canada).
