About
Dale Lewis’s paintings depict the artist’s personal experiences, painted from memory. Reflecting on the realities of contemporary urban life, he focuses on subjects drawn from his immediate environment - social immobility, consumerist excess, binge-drinking culture, gang violence, bad diet, class divides, family life and 9a.m. to 5p.m. jobs. Through disturbing carnivalesque atmospheres, he treats violence and injustice as dark comedies. His artwork features entangled, deformed and even hybrid figures in a deconstructed space reminiscent of certain pictorial influences, such as German expressionism.
Dale Lewis was born in 1980 in England. Graduated from London Guildhall University in 2002, University of Brighton in 2006 and the Turps Studio Programme in 2015, he lives and works in London. His recent exhibitions include: The day I saw you: Portraits from the AMMA Collection at Museo de la Cancillería (Mexico City, Mexico), Friends and Friends of Friends at Schlossmuseum (Linz, Austria), No Place Like Home at Block 336 (London, England), The Great Day at Edel Assanti (London, England), Free Range at Nino Mier Gallery (Los Angeles, United States), Iconoclasts: Art out of the Mainstream at Saatchi Gallery (London, England) and an installation in collaboration with artist Ed Fornieles at Times Square Space (New York, United States). Dale Lewis is represented by Edel Assanti (London, England).
