CARNE y ARENA
(Virtually present, Physically invisible)
Alejandro G. Iñárritu
A Groundbreaking and immersive virtual reality experience
Presented in partnership with and produced by Emerson Collective, Legendary Entertainment, and PHI Studio
Alejandro G. Iñárritu's conceptual virtual reality installation CARNE y ARENA (Virtually present, Physically invisible) explores the human condition of immigrants and refugees.
Based on true accounts, the superficial lines between subject and bystander are blurred and bound together, allowing individuals to walk in a vast space and thoroughly live a fragment of the refugees’ personal journeys. The experience is a twenty-minute solo journey around a virtual reality sequence, experienced by three simultaneous visitors in separate rooms.
Five-time Academy Award-winning director Alejandro G. Iñárritu was presented a special Oscar® in 2017 for CARNE y ARENA, recognized by the Academy as an exceptional storytelling experience.
“Nothing short of brilliant”
- John Wenzel, Denver Post
'' There is a before and after CARNE y ARENA… ‘‘
‘‘ It's extremely realistic, it feels like you're in the movie. It’s bone-chilling. ''
'' All of a sudden, the migrants are there, the American soldiers arrive, we hear a helicopter, there are mad dogs, barking. And we are there… ''
– Marc Cassivi, ICI Première, Pénélope (français, audio)
