Axelle “Ebony” Munezero | Moonflower

The compelling dancer and choreographer Axelle "Ebony" Munezero creates space and movement in Moonflower, exploring the common notion of flowers and the human heart. Concluding a summer residency at Arsenal contemporary art Montreal, Munezero and collaborator cellist Zander Howard-Scott reveals the complexity and beauty of nature.

What makes a flower so beautiful? It’s the hidden complexity within it. At first glance, a flower might seem simple, but the closer you look, the more intricate details and profound depth you discover. Flowers heal our bodies and hearts, demonstrating that peace and love are as intricate as their petals. By creating spaces that reveal these qualities of life, we can hope to counter the suffering and pain our generation faces.

Moonflower is a celebration of care, wonder, and beauty—essences that transcend words and can only be felt from one heart to another. While Munezero shares her stories, Howard-Scott wraps her movement with his notes, harmonizing in a journey that is both moving and heartwarming.

“ M🌙nezero — I am a flower, I am the moon, and I want to reflect love and light to the world. This is the gift I wish to share with you.”
